Two days after just missing out on a no-hitter, NiJaree Canady finished the job on Saturday.
Canady showed her stuff against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, even though she had to sit in the dugout for about 40 minutes while the Texas Tech softball team plated 14 runs in the second inning. Canady went all five innings in the 18-0 win over the Islanders, finished with 13 strikeouts.
It was the 12th no-hitter in Texas Tech history and Canady’s second as a Red Raider after the Topeka native threw one in Lawrence against the Kansas Jayhawks during the 2025 season.
Canady flirted with a no-hitter in Thursday’s opener of the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic, taking things to the top of the fifth inning before giving up her lone hit of the game.
In Canady’s two games at Rocky Johnson Field this season, Canady has thrown 10 innings with 22 strikeouts and one hit allowed with the Red Raiders outscoring the competition 42-0.
Canady is the second Red Raider to throw a no-hitter this season, joining Kaitlyn Terry who tossed one earlier in the year. She is the first Texas Tech player to throw multiple no-hitters and holds the record for most strikeouts in a no-hitter with 13.
