Texas A&M point guard named to All‑SEC and All‑Defensive teams

The Texas A&M women’s basketball team has been a tale of two halves in SEC play. After a rough, confidence‑shaking start, something finally clicked. The Aggies have ripped off a five‑game winning streak, climbed back into the NCAA Tournament conversation, and look nothing like the team that opened league play. Through all the turbulence, one thing never wavered: senior point guard Ny’Ceara Pryor.

A&M entered the offseason desperate for stability at the position after injuries and inconsistency derailed the 2024–25 campaign. Head coach Joni Taylor went into the portal searching for a true floor general and found one of the most decorated mid‑major guards in the country: a two‑time NEC Player of the Year and the 2025 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. The question wasn’t whether Pryor could play—it was how her game would translate against SEC size, speed, and physicality, especially at just 5-foot‑3.

As it turns out, she didn’t just translate—she thrived.

Pryor closed the regular season averaging 15.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 3.5 steals per game. She became only the third player in SEC history to record multiple steals in all 16 conference games, and her 54 steals were the third‑most by any SEC player in the last 25 years. Her 7.2 assists rank No. 4 nationally, and she leads the country in double‑doubles with points and assists (8), a testament to her command of the offense.

Her impact was recognized across the league. Pryor earned spots on both the All‑SEC Second Team and the All‑SEC Defensive Team—marking the program’s first All‑Defensive selection since 2015–16 and its first All‑SEC honoree since 2020–21.

It’s clear now that Taylor didn’t “take a chance” on Pryor. She identified exactly what her team needed and trusted Pryor to deliver it. And Pryor has done that and more, becoming the heartbeat of an Aggie team that refused to let a bad start define its season.
