Texas A&M has lost its second weekend starter, with Ryan Prager selected in the ninth round of the 2025 MLB Draft. With the 282nd overall pick, the Cleveland Guardians took the left-handed pitcher, pairing him with Jace LaViolette, who was chosen in the first round.
What a difference a year makes.
Following a breakout 2024 season, Prager was drafted in the third round by the Los Angeles Angels. Instead of signing a $948,000 contract, he chose to return to Texas A&M, citing “unfinished business” in Aggieland. Unfortunately, the team had a down year overall, and his ERA rose from 2.95 to 4.21. However, the blame doesn’t rest solely on Prager.
Last season, he displayed excellent pitch command, but a change in the pitching system may have contributed to the decline. Despite the setback, he continued to show promise throughout the year. With stronger defense behind him, he has the potential to regain his form as he works his way through the minors.
