Texas A&M jumps one spot in the latest AP Top 25 after Week 7

Texas A&M rose to No. 4 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll after defeating Florida 34-17 on Saturday night, as the Aggies are one of five undefeated Power 4 teams, while Ole Miss (6-0, 3-0 SEC) is the only undefeated SEC team. Staying unbeaten after six games is impressive, but the job is far from finished, and with three consecutive road games on the docket.

Still, Florida was the best defense Texas A&M had faced this season. Although the offense was less consistent in the second half, starting quarterback Marcel Reed made good decisions, except for his confusing interception in the endzone that gave the Gators life. Defensively, the Aggies allowed two early scores in the first quarter, but shut down Florida, frustrating QB DJ Lagway throughout the night, including three sacks and holding the offense to 1-10 on third down.

Moving forward, the defense has yet to prove if it can travel after allowing 40 points against Notre Dame in Week 3, but since defeating the Fighting Irish in South Bend, this unit has been nothing short of elite. Offensively, the potential loss of senior running back Le’Veon Moss will likely be addressed on Monday. Still, even if he misses time, it’s on Marcel Reed to use his legs when necessary and continue to improve his deep ball accuracy.

On Sunday afternoon, the latest AP Top 25 Poll saw the Aggies rise to No. 4, matching their standing in the US LBM Coaches Poll. Around the rest of the college football slate in Week 4, Alabama, Georgia, and LSU all survived their tests, while Indiana’s impressive road win over Oregon was by far the best win of the week.
