Texas A&M’s 2025 baseball season is just 22 days away, as the Aggies will host Tennessee Tech on February 13, and for second year head coach Michael Earley, this could be his final shot in College Station after A&M missed the the NCAA Tournament for the first time in nearly 20 seasons, mainly due to injuries, and poor coaching decisions down the stretch.
After starting the 2024 season as the No. 1-ranked team in the country, it was revealed that star outfielder Caden Sorrell was dealing with a hamstring injury that left him sidelined, while starting infielder Gavin Grahovac was lost for the year, placing a giant hole in the lineup.
While Jace LaViolette had his moments, including his gritty play during the SEC Tournament after breaking his hand, the batting lineup lacked juice, which can be blamed on coaching, but it was clear after the Aggies were in need to better talent, which led to Earley adding elite Maryland transfer SS Chris Hacopian slashing .347/.465/.614 with 29 homers and 103 RBI during his last two seasons with the Terrapins.
Sorrell did return later in the year, becoming the Aggies’ most productive and powerful bat, hitting .337 with 32 RBI and 23 runs scored in 26 starts. Earlier in the year, Hacopian missed Texas A&M’s fall ball portion of the early preseason schedule while recovering from a hand fracture, but he has returned to the team and looks healthy.
On Wednesday, the media was allowed to attend the early portion of Texas A&M’s first scrimmage of the year, and thanks to Austin American-Statesman Tony Catalina for the footage, Caden Sorrell and Chris Hacopian look healthy and are back at full speed, ready to open the 2026 season as two of the top bats in the SEC.
Caden Sorrell
Caden Sorrell’s hamstring issue prevented him from running the bases at full speed, while any twisting motion at the plate could have caused further injury. As you can see, the future first-round draft selection is looking healthy and making impressive cuts around the bases.
Chris Hacopian
Obviously, a hand fracture later in the year would have been detrimental to Hacopian’s 2026 season, but the timing was perfect for the Maryland transfer, who, like Sorrell, is looking back in the swing of things and is on track to be in the starting lineup during the 2026 season opener against Tennessee Tech.
