Texas A&M has cycled through several pitching coaches over the past six seasons, searching for stability and stronger development after a few years of uneven performance on the mound. With Barry Enright now leading the pitching room, the Aggies appear to be turning a corner. Enright, in his first college coaching role, has already shown promise as a recruiter and on Saturday, he landed one of his first major additions for the 2028 class.
Class of 2028 left-hander AJ Bonnette (Southlake, Texas) announced his commitment to Texas A&M, giving the Aggies a high-upside arm at a position that desperately needs long-term depth and growth. Bonnette fits the exact profile Enright has targeted: projectable, competitive, and equipped with the raw tools that can blossom into SEC‑caliber production under a modern developmental system.
Bonnette already flashes a strong fastball and elite command, traits that separate him from many young left‑handers. As a junior, he earned Second Team All‑District honors, posting a 3.83 ERA during district play and establishing himself as one of the top 10 pitchers in Texas for his class. His mix of polish and projection makes him one of those early commits who could draw legitimate MLB Draft attention as he continues to grow.
For a program rebuilding its pitching identity, Bonnette represents another meaningful step forward a talented arm with room to grow, and a clear example of the type of pitcher Enright believes he can elevate.
