Everyone knows about the timeline of Houston Texans veteran wide receiver Tank Dell, but the forgotten name of the ho-hum offense that missed all of last season is tight end Brevin Jordan.
What’s his status going into the 2026 season?
Jordan, who missed nearly all of the 2024 season after suffering a torn ACL in a Week 2 win against the Chicago Bears, was looking to become a factor in the passing game last fall. That was before he tore his patellar tendon in the same leg during training camp drills last August as part of a routine afternoon.
For most of the offseason workouts, Jordan was quiet, often working on revamping his body to get back up to playing speed. On Thursday, he resumed practicing but was limited after early drills since the team plans to manage the workload and stress on his leg to avoid any setbacks.
“Brevin is out here, he’s rolling,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said. “He’s doing a great job back to where he’s been. Always here, big smile on his face, excited to practice. We’re easing him back in. He had a really big play yesterday on a choice route. He got to the proper depth, broke one of our safeties off and had a really nice play.”
Jordan, who enters the final year of his contract, hopes to be the No. 3 tight end behind veteran Dalton Schultz and Foster Moreau, but Houston did use an early selection to bolster the tight end room with the arrival of Michigan’s Marlin Klein. He’ll be battling with Cade Stover for potentially the final spot on the roster if Houston elects to keep four tight ends.
Regardless of the role in the future, Ryans is happy to see Jordan back at some capacity in the present.
“It was exciting to see him just back on the field. We know how devastating it was for him to go down. To see him back working is very encouraging. I’m proud of the work that he’s put in.”
The Texans return to practice later this week for the second stage of OTAs.
