Texas A&M baseball head coach Michael Earley is stacking depth where he needs it the most heading into the 2026 campaign, as the Aggies landed another highly-touted transfer pitcher on Wednesday afternoon.
Right-hander Juan Vargas announced his commitment to Earley and company, marking the third transfer arm to join the program’s roster. The junior righty from Tennessee Tech boasts a 3.82 ERA and 77 strikeouts through 61.1 innings pitched in his collegiate career so far.
Here is the announcement from Vargas as he arrives at his new home in College Station:
According to Perfect Game USA’s Player Rankings, Vargas was the No. 49 right-handed pitcher in his home state of Georgia. The 6-foot-1 righty from Powder Springs played for the USA Prime Scout Team and North Cobb Christian School before eventually signing with Tennessee Tech to begin his collegiate baseball endeavors.
Vargas experienced a season of highs and lows as a freshman for the Golden Eagles in 2024, but he quickly bounced back with a year of experience under his belt as a sophomore. He struck out 56 and posted a 3.19 ERA in his second season with TTU. Following his stint in Cookeville, Tennessee, Vargas will now make the 13-hour trek to College Station to pitch for the Texas A&M baseball program in Blue Bell Park next season.
Although recruiting outlets have yet to release transfer rankings, the Aggies are quickly climbing that list and should be located with the upper echelon teams in the country in recruiting so far this offseason. Earley’s job working the portal continues, but he continues to bring in gems like Vargas, whose contributions will greatly serve the Aggie bullpen in 2026.
