For his first time since winning the Democratic Party nomination for the U.S. Senate, James Talarico is scheduled to visit Abilene.
Talarico is to appear 7-9 p.m. Aug. 13. He now serves as state House District 50 representative.
Announced on his campaign website, Talarico is calling his upcoming visit of Texas cities “The New American Dream Tour.”
The announcement criticizes high prices, low wages and communities divided by the machinations of “billionaire mega-donors.”
The location of the event in the Key City is still to be determined.
Talarico’s race against Republican Ken Paxton, the Texas attorney general, for U.S. Sen. John Cornyn’s seat has tightened significantly in recent polling data.
The Texas Politics Project lists a Fox News poll showing the Democrat at 51% against Paxton’s 49% while a Texas Southern University poll released Tuesday shows Talarico ahead of Paxton by two percentage points.
Polling results have worried Republicans while buoying the hopes of Democrats who haven’t won a statewide office since 1994.
