See which areas of Nueces County are affected by flooding June 16

Public safety officials advise that motorists should not drive through high water in Nueces County after heavy rain. 

At 8:30 a.m. June 16, the Texas Department of Transportation’s road conditions map showed that FM 70, both north and southbound between Bishop and South Staples Street, was closed due to flooding with an expected end time of 12:15 p.m.

Low water crossings on FM 1944 between U.S. 77 and FM 2567 were flooding as well, with an expected end time of noon.

According to the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office, affected areas include:

According to the Texas Department of Transportation Corpus Christi District, drivers should slow down in rainy weather as wet roads reduce traction.

The department advises increasing following distances and allowing for longer stopping distances. Drivers should use headlights, avoid sudden movements and watch for standing water. 

A flood watch has been issued for all of South Texas through the morning of June 18. The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi issued a flash flood warning for Nueces County, San Patricio County, southwestern Aransas County and northern Kleberg County on June 16 through at least 10:15 a.m.
