San Angelo teen charged with murder of 16-year-old

Police have arrested a 17-year-old in connection with another teen’s murder on Wednesday, according to a media release Thursday from the San Angelo Police Department.

Jacob Damian Flores of San Angelo was being held Thursday evening in the Tom Green County Jail on a murder charge in connection with the slaying of a 16-year-old San Angelo boy, according to online jail records. His bond is recommended to be $750,000.

“Early indications is that the suspect was an associate of the victim,” San Angelo police Chief Travis Griffith said during a press conference Thursday. “We’re not going to be identifying the victim due to him being a juvenile.”

Murder is a first degree offense punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison. Anyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

At approximately 4:16 p.m. Wednesday, officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Childress Street to investigate a report of suspicious subjects, an SAPD media release said.

While they were responding, dispatch updated the call to a report of shots fired, police said in the media release. Officers arrived and located a victim at the scene. A 16-year-old was suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

“It was later learned that the victim had been stabbed multiple times,” Griffith said.

The officers immediately rendered aid until emergency medical personnel responded, police said. The San Angelo Fire Department transported the youth to Shannon Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.

“Officers and investigators quickly developed a suspect who had initially been contacted there on scene,” Griffith said.

Over the next several hours, they collected “overwhelming evidence” against Flores, the chief said.

The investigation into the 16-year-old’s death is ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available, police said.

“It’s always hard when you lose somebody you love, especially … in this kind of way, so keep them in your thoughts and prayers,” Griffith said.
