The City of San Angelo has appointed a new city attorney after nine months of the position being open.
City Manager Daniel Valenzuela announced that interim City Attorney Brandon Dyson had been selected to fill the position at the council’s meeting on July 15.
“I’d like to thank Brandon Dyson,” Valenzuela said. “He’s been doing the job of interim city attorney for the past six months, actually over six months at this point. I know that the progression I’ve seen has been great, and Brandon has been doing a great job.”
He said it was his honor to appoint Dyson to the position.
“I’m humbled and appreciative of Mr. Valenzuela’s trust in me and the council’s trust in me,” Dyson said. “It’s been a pleasure serving this community, and I look forward to continuing that for a long time.”
Mayor Tom Thompson said Dyson earned the position and the council was appreciative of him.
The position was previously filled by Theresa James, who is now serving as Fort Worth’s deputy city attorney and left San Angelo in October 2024 after nine years in the position.
