The newest member of the Abilene City Council was sworn in for his first term on Monday afternoon.
Miguel Espinoza won the Place 5 seat after a June 7 runoff election against former City Council member Kyle McAlister.
Espinoza received 58.24% of the vote, according to canvassed results for the runoff from the Taylor County Elections Office.
In a special ceremony Monday, Espinoza accepted the position and was sworn in to the council.
City Council members welcomed Espinoza to the position and expressed enthusiasm for working together during his term.
Espinoza will sit in his first regular meeting as a council member June 26.
