An El Paso man faces a half-dozen charges after allegedly using a knife to threaten several shoppers at the Outlet Shoppes at El Paso, police said.
El Paso police arrested Joseph Yvan Rechy, 41, after officers responded to a call of a disturbance involving a man armed with a knife at 1:55 p.m. on Friday, June 12, at the shopping mall in Northwest El Paso, stated a news release by police spokeswoman Detective Judy Oviedo on Monday, June 15.
Police arrested Rechy at the popular shopping mall at 7051 S. Desert Blvd. next to Interstate 10.
Rechy is accused of approaching several people “while brandishing a knife and making stabbing motions,” including approaching a woman carrying a young child, police said. No injuries were reported and the investigation continues.
Rechy was arrested on six counts of aggravated assault with deadly weapon and one count of terrorist threat causing fear of imminent bodily injury, police and jail records stated.
He is being held at the El Paso County Jail in Downtown on a bond totaling $84,000. He remained jailed as of Tuesday, June 16. He is being represented by an public defense attorney who is unnamed in court listings.
