Hello A-J readers!
This week brought details on a Texas Tech alumna’s jewelry on stage with Miranda Lambert, a merger and more information on Millie’s Homemade Ice Cream.
Back in 2024, I interviewed Cassandra Coronado Everett, the owner of Cenizo West and Cenizo Hatworks. At the time, Everett’s pieces appeared on “Yellowstone” and Faith Hill. During the weekend George Strait tour concerts, Miranda Lambert added her name to Everett’s star-studded roster. Lambert wore Cenizo West’s Heart of Texas necklace, which raised funds for victims of the Hill Country floods last summer.
“As a Texas Tech alumna, there was something especially meaningful about seeing a piece I made by hand worn in Lubbock during a weekend that brought together so much Texas pride, Texas music, and Texas tradition,” Everett said. “Seeing the necklace become part of meaningful Texas music moments like these is something I will always be honored by and grateful for.”
Quext, a Lubbock-based smart building technology provider, finalized a merger with GeoKey, a mobile access control solutions company. The merger comes with a name change, OneQuest.
“By merging with Quext, we’re creating a platform that doesn’t just connect devices, it transforms communities, empowering residents and property teams with a truly integrated smart experience,” said Brandon Peterson, CEO of Geokey.
Kasey and Sami Toivola, the Lubbock franchisees of Millie’s Homemade Ice Cream, gave us more insight on the upcoming plans. For now, the Toivolas will focus on the upcoming location, which will be the first in Texas, and the 1970 Volkswagen Kombi ice cream van.
“They took a chance on us to build it here in Lubbock first,” Sami Toivola said. “I think that everybody, once they taste it, will recognize the difference in quality.”
Going into next week, we’ll have details on a historic Lubbock business location that is up for sale. May is also set to bring some interesting new businesses, so I’m sure we’ll have more coming soon
As always, thank you for reading and supporting the A-J.
