After falling two wins short of a national championship, expectations are high for the Texas Longhorns this upcoming season. While they have plenty of returning veterans, their 2025 recruiting class is ranked the best in the nation. Their next group of future stars includes five-star wide receiver Kaliq Lockett, who could immediately be an impact piece.
While Lockett has not played a collegiate snap, he is receiving national praise. Michael Cohen of Fox Sports released his list of the Top 10 impact freshmen heading into 2025, and at No. 6 was Lockett. His prediction comes as no surprise, considering his potential. The Texas native was ranked the second-best wide receiver in his class by On3Sports.
In Cohen’s rankings, only one wide receiver was ahead of Lockett in Dakorien Moore. The other players in the top five are QB Bryce Underwood, CB Devin Sanchez, OT David Sanders Jr., and RB Gideon Davidson. That group should provide fans with plenty of unforgettable moments.
For the Longhorns, Lockett’s arrival comes at the first perfect time. They lost two key receivers in the NFL Draft, Matthew Golden and Isiah Bond. In his first college season, Lockett will be one of the players counted on to replace their production. The Sachse High School product should have plenty of opportunities with Arch Manning under the center.
As Lockett prepares to start his college career, he also has experienced veterans to rely on. That includes sophomore Ryan Wingo and junior DeAndre Moore Jr. They will serve as mentors for Lockett, Jamie Ffrench, and Michael Terry III.
Although the start of the season is still a few months away, excitement is building for what Lockett will do. If he can make Cohen’s prediction come true, the Longhorns offense will be hard to stop.
