One of the most elite head coaches in the conference said he is a big fan of Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed during Monday’s session at the 2026 SEC Media Days in Tampa, Florida.
Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz and the Tigers were among four teams to take the podium for questions and to preview their respective upcoming campaigns. Through six seasons in Columbia, Drinkwitz boasts a 46-29 overall record, which is tied for fourth-most in school history. He led the Tigers to back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2023 and 2024, before notching an 8-5 record in 2025. One of those five losses last year came at Faurot Field against the Aggies, who secured a dominant 38-17 win over the Tigers.
For the second consecutive season, Texas A&M will be forced to travel to CoMo to play Missouri. However, Reed knows what it’s like to play in that environment and win, having thrown for 221 yards and two touchdowns against Drinkwitz’s squad last year.
Reed’s potential as a passer and his ability to escape the pocket and make plays happen with his feet have made a fan of the Missouri head coach.
While Reed has flashed at times during his first two collegiate seasons, he still must improve his consistency as a passer before he can reach the next level. Despite some criticism about his decision-making and throwing ability, the Nashville, Tennessee, native has handled it with grace and shown tremendous promise.
If he can continue to develop and progress under head coach Mike Elko and offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins, Reed has the potential to be one of the top quarterbacks in the SEC again in 2026, which Drinkwitz seems to already be planning for, with the showdown between the Aggies and Tigers set for October 10.
