In-state cornerback commits to Texas Tech over SEC programs

The Texas Tech Red Raiders have made another addition to their 2027 recruiting class, receiving a commitment from four-star cornerback Joshua Banks on Tuesday.

Banks is from Humble, Texas, and picked the Red Raiders over the LSU Tigers, Arkansas Razorbacks, SMU Mustangs, and Colorado State Rams. He officially visited Texas Tech last weekend, allowing them to take control of his recruitment and secure his commitment.

He is ranked as the No. 281 overall player and No. 33 cornerback in the Rivals industry ranking. He is also the No. 41 player from Texas. Ten of Texas Tech’s 15 commitments are in-state players as Joey McGuire and Co. have taken advantage of all the local talent.

His addition gives Texas Tech the 6th-best recruiting class overall and the best class in the Big 12, according to Rivals. He is the third defensive back they have landed, joining four-star athlete Gideon Gash and four-star safety Kaston Lewis.

They have one of the most talented classes in the country, having commitments from five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster and five-star edge Anthony Sweeney. Brewster is the No. 1 overall player in the country, and Texas Tech’s average player rating of 91.93 is the 6th-highest in the country.
