Highlights from Texas A&M's 16th preseason practice

Texas A&M’s 16th preseason practice on Tuesday took place inside the Bright Football Complex, as the Aggies are inching closer to opening the 2025 season against UTSA on Saturday, August 30. This week, the focus remains on fixing any remaining issues while avoiding injuries before hosting the Roadrunners.

It’s hard to quantify the Aggies’ improvement after 16 practices and just one closed scrimmage, while starting quarterback Marcel Reed will continue to be the significant question mark from the national media, and most of the fan base who are still reeling from A&M’s 1-4 finish after starting 7-1 last season.

However, Reed’s accuracy, especially throwing the deep ball, has improved, and if the veteran O-line lives up to its immense potential, he’ll have plenty of time to go through reads. Texas A&M’s wide receiver rotation now features KC Concepcion and Mario Craver, two of the quickest route runners in the country, who have already developed a rapport with Reed this preseason.

With the return of star RB Le’Veon Moss, the Aggie running back room is also one of the deepest units with Rueben Owens, Amari Daneils and EJ Smith backing him up. OC Collin Klein possesses all the pieces to get this group ready for battle, but how he’ll utilize the running back rotation remains to be seen.

On defense, the secondary, specifically the cornerback rotation, should take another step with Tyreek Chappell returning, paired with senior Will Lee III, Georgia transfer Julian Humphrey, and Washington transfer Jordan Shaw. Depth-wise, Jayvon Thomas and Bravion Rogers have stood out over the last two weeks, which is excellent news.
