Texas A&M’s Maroon & White Game was the event of the weekend in College Station, as the Aggie baseball team is on the road, and while the 2026 college football season is just over four months away, this was the first time Aggie fans were able to watch the 41 newcomers from the transfer portal and 2026 recruiting class.
With starting quarterback Marcel Reed returning, paired with what many consider an elite wide receiver rotation, losing four of five starters along the offensive line became a primary focus for third-year coach Mike Elko and O-line coach Adam Cushing, who, despite landing six offensive line signees in the 2025 signing class, knew that in order to compete for a CFP spot, gaining experience from the transfer portal was vital.
With that, the Aggies landed four veteran offensive linemen from the portal, as Tyree Adams and Coen Echols made their way to campus from LSU, while South Carolina transfer guard Trovon Baugh and former Alabama tackle Wilkin Formby will all compete for starting jobs this fall.
On Saturday, the Maroon team started O-line featuring Lamont Rogers and Tyler Thomas at left tackle and guard, both from the 2025 signing class, and Trovon Baugh and Robert Bourdon at right guard and right tackle. The White team used Tyree Adams (LT), Coen Echols (LG), Ashton Funk (C), Blake Ivy (RG) and Wilkin Formby (RT), which could be the starting offensive line rotation, minus Funk at center in favor of Nabou.
Either way, this is one of the deeper offensive line rooms Adam Cushing has had the opportunity to work with, and Mike Elko agrees, stating on Saturday afternoon and the Maroon & White Game that he’s confident in this group despite losing four of five 2025 starters.
“You have older guys who have played in the SEC with guys who have been in our program.”
“You have this really good competitive balance… It’s a deeper group than it was last year.”
Sophomore running back Jamarion Morrow is equally impressed by the depth and size of the offensive line rotation, which consistently opened holes in the run game, allowing Morrow to produce several explosive runs on Saturday.
“They have been great from the start. When it comes to the run game, they are just moving people. It seems like they gel well.”
Whichever rotation starts against Missouri State to open the 2026 season, Elko and Cushing will have plenty to work with if changes need to be made.
