Texas A&M defensive lineman Nic Scourton made a strong impression during the preseason, and it looked like he was poised for a breakout start to his NFL career. However, a chest injury prompted the Carolina Panthers to proceed with caution. After five games, he delivered one of his most impressive performances of the season.
The Bryan–College Station native earned the highest rookie grade with an 89.6 PFF score. He finished the game with four tackles, one tackle for loss, and a 90.0 coverage rating.
Scourton didn’t receive the same fanfare as some of the other defensive linemen in the draft. Still, he was consistently productive in college, and his skill set is beginning to translate effectively at the professional level. He’s even earning praise from teammates for his daily approach:
“He’s high-level intelligent, high-level workmanship, high-level football intangibles.” – Ejiro Evero
The future looks bright for Scourton, who appears to be laying the foundation for a long and successful career.
