President Donald Trump is pushing to keep daylight saving time permanent, as clocks are set to change in a couple of weeks.
Trump posted on Truth Social on Aug. 4 that a bill, looking to make daylight saving time permanentt has gone to the Senate for final approval. The House voted July 14 to make daylight saving time permanent through the Sunshine Protection Act.
“People are sick and tired of having to change their clocks twice a year. It is foolish, inconvenient and, in some cases, very costly,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “This is an issue that Republicans, Democrats, and Independents can unite behind.”
While Trump urged the passing of the Sunshine Protection Act, the Senate is in recess until Sept. 14, and key lawmakers have questioned whether there are enough votes to pass the measure before the fall time change arrive. Several senators and policy experts have raised concerns that permanent daylight saving time could mean darker winter mornings, especially in northern states, reported USA TODAY.
When does daylight saving time end 2026?
Clocks will move back one hour on Nov. 1.
The shift marks the return to standard time and gives Americans an extra hour of sleep, while also bringing earlier sunsets and more morning daylight through the winter months.
