El Paso women die after being struck by vehicles in separate crashes

Two El Pasoans died after being struck by vehicles in separate crashes, authorities said.

The first fatal crash happened about 5:20 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, in the 7800 block of North Loop Drive in the Lower Valley, El Paso Police Department spokeswoman Detective Judy Oviedo said in a news release.

Ana Maria Paniagua, 57, offered Aurora Morales, 62, who was in a 1999 Ford F350, a ride home, the news release states. As Morales was changing seats, the truck began to roll backward and struck Paniagua.

Paniagua was taken to a hospital, where she died from the injuries she suffered in the crash, the news release states.

El Paso police’s DWI Task Force was called to assist with the investigation, the news release states. No further information has been released on whether alcohol may have played a role in the crash.

Woman struck by vehicle in far East El Paso

The second fatal pedestrian crash over the weekend happened about 2:10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8, in the 2300 block of Tim Foster Street in far East El Paso, Oviedo said in a news release.

Erica Suann Garcia, 37, of El Paso, was crossing Tim Foster Street when she was struck by a 2025 Kia K4 driven by Harmony McNair, 20, of North Carolina. Garcia was not crossing at a crosswalk or controlled intersection, the news release states.

Garcia was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries.

No further information was released as the crash remains under investigation, the news release states.

The deaths are the seventh and eighth traffic-related deaths in the El Paso city limits in 2026, compared to six at this same time last year.
