An El Paso man who died after his motorcycle was struck by a car was a pastor at The Rock Faith Center, church officials said.
Pastor Jason Owens, 49, died after his Harley-Davidson motorcycle was struck by a Mercedes sedan about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at the intersection of Krag Street and Santiesteban Lane in Montana Vista, law enforcement and church officials said.
“It is with an extremely heavy heart that we share the passing of our dear Pastor Jason Owens,” The Rock Faith Center Pastor C. Eric Hallback, Sr. said in a statement posted on Facebook. “Pastor Jason was not only a dedicated servant of God but also a cherished friend and a vital part of our church family. His unwavering faith, compassion, and love for the Lord touched the lives of everyone he encountered.”
Hallback asked the community to pray for Owens and his family.
“We ask everyone to join us in prayer as we remember Pastor Jason Owens – a man of faith, love, and unwavering devotion to Jesus,” the statement read. “We hold his family close in our hearts and trust that God’s comfort and grace will surround them now and forever.”
Owens died from his injuries at a hospital following the crash, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Priscilla Contreras said in a news release.
Owens was riding his motorcycle northbound on Krag Street when he was struck by the Mercedes that failed to yield at a stop sign while eastbound on Santiesteban Lane, the Sheriff’s office news release states.
The name of the driver of the Mercedes has not been released. An investigation into the crash is ongoing with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
