Troy Douglas, who has been the girls wrestling coach at state powerhouse Eastwood for 11 years, has resigned.
“I was tough,” he said of his decision to step down. “But I have two young daughters I want to spend more time with.”
Under Douglas’ guidance, Eastwood became a gold standard in wrestling, winning four state championships, including back-to-back in 2025-26 in Class 6A. The other state titles were in 2020 (Class 5A) and 2023 (Class 6A). He was also named the NFHS Texas High Wrestling Coach of the Year in 2024.
“All of the teams were special. Going back-to-back was something I had never been a part of; that was a great experience,” Douglas said. “The first one was great. I’m just so fortunate for all the kids and the assistant coaches. Everyone worked hard and gave everything they had.”
Douglas will remain at Eastwood, where he teaches English and he will still be coaching the ninth-grade football team.
“I’ll still be here at Eastwood to be supportive,” Douglas said.
Douglas coached several statewide standouts this past season, including two-time state champ Hailey Delgado and Alessandra Toscano, who has placed third in her first two years at the state tourney.
