The Dallas Cowboys have decided to augment their pass rush for the 2026 season, adding Texas native Von Miller to the fold. The front office has hinted they were still searching for pieces to contribute to their team, and following a live joint practice against the Los Angeles Rams and an exhibition game against the Seattle Seahawks, the team finaled the move for the now 15-year veteran.
Miller will be in a purely rotational role at this point of his career, and a storied career it has been. Across his 14 seasons he’s totaled 138.5 sacks and is the active leader in that category across the NFL. He’s been well compensated for those sacks, too. Across four NFL teams, Miller has already totaled $198.74 million in salary and bonus compensation.
That means that no matter what emerges from the details of his new contract, which will likely be revealed at some point on Monday or Tuesday, Miller will become a $200 million man. The minimum veteran salary for player with seven or more years experience is $1.3 million.
The bulk of Miller’s career has been spent with the Denver Broncos, the team that made him the No. 2 overall selection out of Texas A&M in 2011. In 10 seasons, he earned over $143.7 million in Denver, playing across two contracts. He was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 2016, earning just over $700,000 for his tenure there. He then moved on to Buffalo where he played three seasons and earned $47.2 million before his lone year in D.C. for $7.1 million.
As for his impact with the team, Miller notched nine sacks in a part-time role with the Washington Commanders last season, working under Dan Quinn. He was in on 36 quarterback pressures (eight solo sacks, two more half sacks, four additional QB hits and 22 pressures) according to Pro Football Focus’ game data.
He did this playing 37% of the team’s defensive snaps, of which 289 were pass-rush opportunities. That 8.4% pass-rush productivity metric would’ve been third among Dallas’ edge rushers, who were paced by Jadeveon Clowney’s 11.7%, followed by James Houston’s 9.3%.
Another new Cowboys, Rashan Gary, had a 7.8% PRP with the Green Bay Packers last year.
