The Dallas Cowboys joint practice with the New Orleans Saints started with a bang after a large brawl between the two teams, resulting in Cowboys OLB Donovan Ezeiruaku’s removal from practice by head coach Brian Schottenheimer. After practice, Schottenheimer expressed his disappointment in his players. Schottenheimer said, “I want our guys to play on the edge without going over the edge.” But he also backed up his players, saying, “We’re certainly not going to take s— from anybody, but again, it was chippy on both sides.”
He’s also going to sit down and talk with Ezeiruaku about his issue of throwing punches and getting ejected for it. It’s happened twice since the Cowboys arrived in Oxnard, and Schottenheimer quickly pointed out it’s happened in front of two separate officiating crews. Hinting the two crews will be keeping an eye on Ezeiruaku once the season begins, hopefully Schottenheimer can get through to him, getting Ezeiruaku to realize he needs to control his temper.
