Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott spoke with the media Thursday before the team broke for the summer, and he took the opportunity to bust a popular myth about his new wide receiver. Read on to learn what Prescott said George Pickens is really like, and why- in his 10th year now- he’s more focused on a Super Bowl than ever. And where will the QB take his pass-catchers for this year’s annual retreat?
Meanwhile, Micah Parsons confirms that he and Jerry Jones have talked numbers, Brian Schottenheimer reveals that some of his offensive players are practicing at new positions, and the team brings in five NFL veterans for workouts. All that, plus wedding bells for one Cowboy, and the head coach gets emotional remembering his legendary dad just before Father’s Day.

The quarterback says he’s “super excited” about the offense that’s been assembled around him this year, saying the frequently-maligned George Pickens has been “phenomenal” since joining the Cowboys. The veteran now entering his 10th year says he is far more focused on winning a championship for the team than he is on his legacy.

Prescott putting together a retreat for offensive skill position players has become an annual tradition. “You can catch a lot of JUGS, you can catch passes, but you want them catching them from you, catching them from the quarterbacks,” Prescott said Thursday after the final day of the mandatory minicamp. “And then lastly, there’s that camaraderie. Getting those guys together.” No word on where the group may be headed this summer.

Parsons says his face-to-face talks with Jerry Jones have resulted in a price point that the owner apparently called “doable.” The two spoke at length on the practice field this week, and Parsons even put on a helmet and jumped in on a few drills, so it seems things are headed in the right direction, even if slowly.

Parsons is one of the faces of this franchise, and he’ll likely be rewarded as such. But in true Cowboys fashion, it may not happen until the last possible minute. The prediction here is for a four-year extension worth $162 million.

The dancing, the TikTok calls, and the ping-pong table are all great, writes Mac Engel. But the Cowboys won’t know if any of these “connections” and “culture” mean a thing until the first losses of the regular season, until wide receivers are complaining about a lack of targets, until the injury report is three miles long, the team has to go into New York for a night game, and the goal is survival. Former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett was a fan of these sorts of things, too. We’ll soon find out how Schottenheimer handles the tougher times.

Fowler logged 10 sacks over two previous years with the Cowboys, yet few fans seemed distraught when he left for Washington. Dallas typically carries about 10 offensive linemen on the 53-man roster. Once you get past the starting five, things get very interesting, with names like Brock Hoffman, Asim Richards, T.J. Bass, Robert Jones, Saahdiq Charles, Nathan Thomas, and rookie Ajani Cornelius all vying for spots.

Kemon Hall got work with the first-team defense this week, and there may be more coming, based on his performance. A former North Texas standout, Hall made waves during training camp last summer, too. He didn’t make the initial 53, but he ended up seeing time in six games after being called up from the practice squad. Injuries to Trevon Diggs and rookie Shavon Revel could push DaRon Bland outside, and that may open the door for Hall to start at nickel.
