The city of Canyon has offered an explanation and update after its Municipal Court was abruptly closed last week.
On Aug. 17, Canyon’s Municipal Court at 1317 7th Ave. announced via social media that it was closing its doors for the week – and offered no explanation.
At that time, all trials and dockets were cancelled until the matter was resolved.
Globe-News attempts to inquire for more information went unanswered.
On Friday, the city of Canyon shared the following message:
“Canyon Municipal Court is currently undergoing a staffing transition, and the court offices are temporarily closed. Updated office hours are expected to be posted next week. If you need assistance with court business, please email court@canyontx.gov.
Payments can still be made:
– Online at www.CanyonTX.gov
– By calling the automated payment system at 833-318-2856
Thank you for your patience during this transition.”
The court has jurisdiction over Class C misdemeanors occurring within the city limits of Canyon and collects fines and court fees from citations issued by the Canyon Police Department, Fire Marshal, Animal Control, Environmental Health or Code Enforcement officials.
