Camp Fire North Texas has paused its after-school programs for the rest of 2026, according to a notice posted by the organization on its website.
The notice addressed to “Friends and Families” said the programs were paused “as we undergo restructuring.”
The notice signed by board President Stacy Gellner said, “We want to make sure that when we return to serving you, we do so in a way that’s sustainable, well-resourced, and that best meets the needs of our amazing community.”
A Facebook post by the organization stressed it is not closing its doors and is “actively pursuing grants and other funding opportunities.”
The post said, “We are reaching out to our community, looking for partnerships, and working on new ideas to help secure Camp Fire’s future.”
The nonprofit is sponsoring a rummage sale 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 22 at its Harrel Park location adjacent to Lucy Park.
Membership fees for families are $50 per month for one child and $5 for each additional child, according to the group’s posts. Camp Fire has received funding from the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation and the Hands to Hands Community Fund.
According to its website, Camp Fire North Texas began in Wichita Falls in 1915. It’s after-school programs have been available for children in kindergarten through fifth grade and provided children with meals and snacks through the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank.
In addition to its after-school program, Camp Fire offers summer day camp at its Harrel Park site.
