Blackwell ISD is hiring former state champion Clint Linman as its new athletic director and football coach, as first reported by KLST on Wednesday.
Linman guided McLean to the Class 1A Division I state title in 2018 with a 100-70 win over Milford, while guiding the Tigers to a perfect 15-0 record.
Linman most recently coached at Jal, New Mexico. Before his one-season stint in the 11-man ranks, he led Whiteface to the Class 1A DI state championship game in 2024. He also has coaching stops at Anton, Miami and Whitharral.
Linman was 27-2 in two years with McLean and 34-5 in three years with Whiteface. He was also 7-6 in a year at Miami and 8-3 in one season at Whitharral.
The Hornets’ new coach replaces Wiley Cummings, who went 9-14 in two seasons and was recently hired at Robert Lee ISD as a coach and teacher. Despite the losing record, Blackwell made the postseason in Cummings’ two seasons at the helm.
After the most recent UIL reclassification and realignment, Blackwell will compete in a district with Trent, Panther Creek, Olfen and Loraine for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
