Worthington electricity rates will tick up slightly as the city’s community electricity aggregation program changes its supplier.
The city had previously contracted directly with AEP Energy since June 2025 at a rate of 9.97 cents per kilowatt hour. The rate is rising slightly to 10.69 cents per kilowatt hour with Direct Energy Services, LLC.
The new contract will go from June 2026 through June 2028.
Voters first passed an aggregation program in 2018 and it was first implemented in 2019. The city’s power comes from 100% renewable sources.
AEP Ohio will continue to carry, service and bill for electricity, but the generation source will now be Direct Energy, according to a city webpage.
The program allows the city to pool electricity buying power for homes and eligible small businesses. The city automatically enrolls people into the program, but people can opt out of the program at any time without penalty, according to a letter Worthington shared with customers.
