The Mid Ohio Athletic Conference golf championships will be decided this week, while girls tennis in the league wraps up next week.
Volleyball will be making its second trip around the conference starting this week. Soccer is beyond the midpoint and cross country is a month from league championships and then the postseason.
To honor the best achievements of the last week among Marion-area fall sports athletes, here are the nominees for the latest boys and girls Marion Star Athlete of the Week Polls for Sept. 15.
Fans are encouraged to vote as often as allowed at MarionStar.com and its app. The polls will be open through early morning of Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025.
Marion Star Girls Athlete of the Week Poll for Sept. 15
Cardington volleyball’s Alexis Longsdorf recorded 14 kills, three aces, three blocks and 13 assists in a win over Mount Gilead.
Ridgedale volleyball’s Hadessah Mills put up 17 points, four aces, 30 digs, 18 serve receptions and seven kills in a 5-set loss to Ridgemont.
Elgin volleyball’s Kadence Gear produced 13 kills, three aces, 15 digs and 17 assists in a win over Ridgemont.
River Valley volleyball’s Myla Kenney posted 15 kills and four aces in a win over Clear Fork.
Pleasant volleyball’s Faith McCants blocked eight hits during a win over Shelby.
North Union golfer Gabby Lindsey shot a 47 in a win over Ridgemont at Veterans Memorial Park.
Marion Harding cross country runner Lydia Price was seventh in 20:22 at the Central Ohio Cross Country Invitational at Three Creeks Metro Park.
Cardington cross country runner MicKenzie White was the runner-up in 21:07 in the Roar Division of the Galion Festival.
Northmor cross country runner Kate Lehman was third in 20:04 in the Tiger Division of the Galion Festival.
Marion Star Boys Athlete of the Week Poll for Sept. 15
Pleasant soccer’s Rodric Gomez scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over River Valley.
River Valley golfer Chase Smith shot a 38 with an eagle in his final home match at Kings Mill during a win over Elgin.
North Union cross country’s Ben Bonnell was fifth in 17:24 in the Green Division of the Dublic Jerome Celtic Clash.
Highland cross country’s Matthew Miller was third in 16:48 in the Stripes Division of the Galion Festival.
Mount Gilead cross country’s Rowan Shaw was 12th in 17:58 in the Roar Division of the Galion Festival.
Ridgedale cross country’s Elliot Weston was third in 16:36 in the Tiger Division of the Galion Festival.
Last week’s polls
There were 1,618 votes cast in last week’s boys poll with Marion Harding soccer’s Jeffrey Stimson winning it with 776 votes for 48 percent after he scored the lone goal in a victory over Willard. Other nominees were North Union golfer Ethan Monroe, Ridgedale cross country’s Brogan Weston, River Valley golfer Asher Gates, Highland cross country’s Caleb Burton and Mount Gilead cross country’s Henry Bartlett.
There were 1,154 votes cast in last year’s girls poll with North Union cross country’s Kailin McElroy winning it with 361 votes for 31 percent after she ran third in 20:58 at the FARMBanks Invitational at Fairbanks. Other nominees were Elgin volleyball’s Jordan Wall, River Valley soccer’s Havyn Rodgers, Marion Harding cross country’s Leah Price, Ridgedale volleyball’s Annison Jones, Pleasant volleyball’s Kam Cocherl and Gilead Christian cross country’s Nena Green.
