What to know: Ross County Jail will receive money to upgrade building and enhance security

CHILLICOTHE ― Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction Director Annette Chambers-Smith announced May 30 that the state will award $50 million in grants to help with construction and renovation projects at jails across the state, including Ross County.

The funds will come out of the DeWine’s Ohio Jail Safety and Security Program which was launched in 2021, to help fund improvements at structurally failing jails or outdated functionality.

“This funding will not only support safer environments for those living and working in our local jails, but it will also help prepare inmates for release by creating improved spaces for workforce development, educational opportunities, and other programming,” said DeWine. 

Eleven counties, including Ross, will use funding for upgrading their buildings and enhancing security.

Water system improvements

Bainbridge is to receive $750,000 for water system improvements from the Ohio Department of Development.

The village’s system is over a century old and has experienced high water loss due to damaged and aged lines.

Meetings

The Colerain Township Board of Trustees will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on June 9, located at 49 Whisler Rd, Hallsville. The annual budget hearing meeting will be held immediately after.

Liberty Township Board of Trustees will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. on June 11 in the office of the fiscal officer located at 4923 Vigo Road, Londonderry.

The 2026 Chillicothe tax budget review will be held at 6:45 p.m. on June 9 at 26 S. Paint Street, Chillicothe.
