What time is curfew in Chillicothe? See what the law says

CHILLICOTHE — Summer break is a time when local kids are able to let loose and have fun without having to worry about getting up early the next day for algebra. While each household has different rules, kids are typically able to stay out later and have fun with their friends even after the streetlights come on.

While each family sets its own curfew for children, did you know the city of Chillicothe also has a curfew for minors?

Statewide, Ohio doesn’t enforce a curfew on residents. Those with a probationary driver’s license, however, are not permitted to drive between midnight and 6 a.m. without a parent, guardian or licensed driver over 21, according to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

The state also allows for municipalities to create their own curfews for those under the age of 18. In Chillicothe, that curfew is 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays and midnight to 5 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

It is not illegal for minors to be out during these hours if they are with an authorized adult, returning home from school or religious activities, or in an emergency.

Parents who knowingly allow minors to be out during curfew are subject to warnings and possible minor misdemeanors upon multiple offenses.
