A Waffle House soon will be built in Brimfield Township after its Board of Zoning Appeals approved a variance for the eatery.
The board granted the restaurant a 5-foot variance from the township’s minimum lot width requirement of 100 feet. The lot, at 136 Tallmadge Road, is 95 feet wide.
Drew Schuler, director of real estate for Waffle House, said the company needed the variance because there is “not an opportunity to acquire additional land” to make the lot wider.
The property is between Dunkin and Kenny’s Cleaners, roughly across the street from Arby’s.
“We’re excited to bring a new restaurant to the community,” Schuler said.
Mike Hlad, economic development director and zoning inspector for Brimfield Township, said he had several virtual meetings with Waffle House, and worked out several details prior to the Aug. 12 meeting, including stormwater and a fire lane.
Schuler said the parking lot and building are standard for the chain. There will be about 30 parking spaces and about 34 seats inside the restaurant.
He expects the restaurant to be constructed and open within two years.
Waffle House, a national chain, has 50 restaurants in Ohio, including Akron, Canton, North Canton, Massillon and Medina. In addition to breakfast food, the eatery serves lunch and dinner. All locations in Ohio are open 24 hours a day, although some limit dine-in or delivery hours.
