A Columbus man wanted in a July 2024 shooting that killed a man and wounded a second person has been captured in northwest Ohio, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Duron Thomas, 34, was arrested Feb. 2 by the U.S. Marshals Service Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) in Toledo. Thomas faces charges of murder and felonious assault in the shooting death of 25-year-old Jacob Coons and a second victim, according to the U.S. Marshals.
Columbus police officers responded 1:43 a.m. on July 28, 2024, to Charley’s Place on South Glenwood Avenue in Franklinton on a report of a shooting. On arrival, officers found Coons and another victim with gunshot wounds from a shooting authorities say reportedly resulted from a dispute over a game of pool.
Officers rendered aid to the two victims until medics with the Columbus Division of Fire arrived on scene.
Coons was pronounced dead at the scene by medics at 1:50 a.m. The second victim was transported to a local hospital and survived their injuries.
Homicide investigators had issued a warrant for Thomas’ arrest days after the murder. They learned that Thomas may be hiding in the Toledo area.
Marshals with the NOVFTF later located Thomas at a home in the 600 block of South Berry Street in Toledo, according to a U.S. Marshals news release. As agents approached the home, Thomas slammed the door and ran into the second story of the home. Agents eventually convinced Thomas to surrender, the media release states.
Thomas is in custody in the Toledo area until he is extradited to Franklin County to face charges, according to the U.S. Marshals.
