Two positions to be filled on Uhrichsville council
UHRICHSVILLE − The Uhrichsville Democratic Central Committee will meet at 6:30 pm June 25, in council chambers to select someone to replace at-large councilperson Steve Patterson, who has resigned.

Organizations receive grants for tire recycling
DOVER − The Ohio EPA recently awarded two Tuscarawas County organizations Recycle Ohio grants for scrap tire collections. The Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau received $20,000, and the Tuscarawas County Health Department received $12,000.
Nonprofits can apply for grants
DOVER − Local nonprofits that address the needs of the community can apply for grants through the Reeves Foundation by July 23 for grants to be awarded in August. For more information email office@reevesfound.org or call 330-364-4660.
Requests of all sizes are considered, but organizations must be 501(c)(3) certified. Emphasis is placed on capital-type expenditures rather than on operating funds.
Cy Young Days Festival coming
NEWCOMERSTOWN − Reservations are being taken for the Cy Young Days Festival Luncheon featuring Greg Swindell to be held June 28, at Newcomerstown High School. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and lunch will be at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $25 for adults, and $15 for children younger than 12. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 740-227-1544 or emailing chaney.janet8@gmail.com.

Fire department hosts roast beef dinner
SCIO − The Scio Volunteer Fire Department on West Main Street will host a roast beef dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 29. The all-you-can-eat dinner is $15 for adults and $8 for those younger than 10.
April Thayer earns certification
DOVER − April Thayer, activities director for Hennis Care Centre in Dover, has earned her advanced activity professional board certification, a nationally recognized credential of the highest level that signifies advanced knowledge and skills in the field of resident activities.
Genealogy classes offered in June and July
DENNISON − The Tuscarawas County Genealogical Society will offer genealogy classes at its library, 307 Center St. Christy Walker will present a program on beginning genealogy at 3 p.m. June 28. Activities at the Dover Library
● Chris Sieverdes, curator of the Millersburg Glass Museum, will talk about the history of Millersburg glass as well as the patterns, colors and shapes at 6:30 p.m. June 26.
● An introductory class on fly fishing will be held at 1 p.m. June 28. Jerry Stebbins from Bethany College in Bethany, West Virginia, will talk about a new competitive fly-fishing team at Bethany, as well as scholarship opportunities for students interested in the college’s fly-fishing team.
● Summer reading programs with varying themes will be held during July. They include an artsy afternoon at 1 p.m. July 1, technology week where children can make their own bots at 11 a.m. July 12, animal week with visit by the Akron Zoo at at 1 p.m. July 19, music week where participants can make their own musical instruments at 11 a.m. July 26, and heroes week when Dover fire and police will visit with children at 10:30 a.m. July 30.
