The incident began on May 13 when MPD responded to a report of multiple shots being fired around Oak and Chestnut Streets. When police arrived, no one involved in the shooting was still in the area.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting was the result of an ongoing dispute between the involved persons,” the release states.

One person was reported to be at Marion General Hospital being treated for a gunshot wound and was later transferred to a Columbus hospital. There were no other injuries reported on May 13.

Investigators have found that more than 20 shots were fired by a group of young people. MPD stated that at least three houses were hit by the gunfire.

MPD continues to investigate the incident.
