See where ESPN projects Bruce Thornton to go in the NBA draft

The NBA draft is just about one week away. College basketball players from all over the country are hoping to hear their names called and fulfill dreams of playing in the league. In recent years, Ohio State has heard names like Brice Sensabaugh, Malaki Branham, and E.J. Liddell called on draft night. Now the Buckeyes hope to hear another name called by Adam Silver on June 24.

Bruce Thornton gave his heart and soul to the Scarlet and Gray and became the all-time leading scorer in Ohio State basketball history. He is the epitome of what a point guard should be, a floor general, making his teammates better, while being able to create his own shot as well. But after four years in Columbus, was he good enough to be selected by an NBA team? ESPN seems to think so.

In the latest mock draft, “The World Wide Leader in Sports” has Thornton going in the middle of the second round to the San Antonio Spurs at pick No. 44. Having a big man like Victor Wembanyama to play with would be something Thornton has never had before.

Another former Buckeye, Felix Okpara, is projected to go two picks ahead of Thornton, which ironically also belongs to San Antonio. Should it play out that way, it would be a reunion as the two spent their freshman and sophomore seasons together before Okpara transferred to Tennessee for his final two years.
