We’ve got some encouraging news for Ohio State fans as we get into Michigan Week. Unless you’ve been boycotting life as of late, you are fully aware that Buckeye superstar receivers Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate have been dealing with some undisclosed injuries, both missing the game against Rutgers on Saturday.
The biggest worry for Ohio State fans and the story the media has been following and trying to get a temperature on is whether one or both of the dynamic duo will be able to play against Michigan as the Buckeyes try to break a four-game losing streak in the rivalry up in Ann Arbor.
Well, we have some positive signs on that very topic, because Ryan Day appeared on the local 97.1 The Fan Buckeye Roundtable show on Monday and gave some encouraging news. When asked about whether or not the two were trending towards playing against Michigan, Day sounded encouraged.
“They are (trending to play). They’re going to continue to get some rest tonight, had a good day of rehab,” Day said. “So we’ll wake up in the morning and see how they’re doing, but nobody wants to play more than those two guys.”
Smith played the week prior against UCLA after being listed as questionable in the team’s availability report, but left the game about halfway through and had a noticeable limp on the sidelines and while walking off the field of play after the game. Tate’s status, in particular, has been more worrisome because he was ruled out just before the Purdue game, then missed the UCLA and Rutgers contests as well, suggesting there is a lingering issue.
Still, you can bet these two want nothing more than to be a part of getting that Maize and Blue monkey off the program’s back. To do it, Ohio State might need the two to provide their usual superhero status when the two ancient rivals kick things off at Noon ET Saturday.
As more becomes available, and we’re sure Day will be asked during his weekly Tuesday presser, we’ll have more. For now, though, things sound encouraging.
