Roy Price Jr. left no doubt in winning an Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division championship on May 17 for the Newark boys track team.
The sophomore blew away the field in winning the 110-meter hurdles during the final day of competition at Lancaster. Price crossed the line in 14.74 seconds.
“It just comes naturally because I have to give all of the credit to God and my coaches for getting me prepared for everything,” Price said. “The pressure doesn’t really faze me. I am used to it.”
Price finished well ahead of the identical 15.07 times run by Canal Winchester’s Ryan Scollard and Logan’s Trey Roush. Price later placed fourth in the 300 hurdles (41.62).
Price enters next week’s Division I district meet with one of the top times in Ohio in the 110 hurdles.
“I’m very excited,” Price said. “I am ranked No. 7 in the state right now, so going to state and competing against the top people is definitely one of my goals. I want to try to place top 3 up there. Obviously, I want to place first, but I try to stay realistic with goals.”
In the girls meet, Newark freshman Odessa Andrews-Barreau took runner-up in the 100 hurdles (16.77). Classmate Jazmyn Brown placed sixth in the 400 (1:02.76) for the Wildcats.
