Aubrey Lackey put her name into the Ohio High School Athletic Association softball record book April 15.
Granville’s standout sophomore tied a state record, hitting four home runs during a 19-6 victory at Northridge in Licking County League play. The left-handed slugging Lackey knocked in eight runs.
Lackey is known to be at least the 12th player in Ohio history to hit four home runs in a game. Johnstown’s Sydney Stefanick against Bloom-Carroll in 2016 and Watkins Memorial’s Cortney Dobbs against Independence in 2021 are two of the previous 11 to accomplish the feat.
Lackey previously hit three home runs in a 13-5 victory at Tri-Valley on April 4. That tied her with former teammates Sophia Patena, twice, and Megan Lodge, who hit three home runs in a game a total of three times last season, and Taylor Warehime, who hit three home runs in a game in 2023 for the Blue Aces.
Carly Wollenberg also homered, knocking in four runs, and Jillian Brownfield and Avary King each added three hits, including a double, combining for five runs for the Blue Aces (5-8, 1-5) against the Vikings. Kaylee Watkins struck out three and allowed two earned runs in four innings.
Kadance Adkins led the Vikings (5-8, 0-6) with two hits, a run and two RBIs. Ellie Reese added two hits and two runs, Cheyann Severance two hits and a run and Nya Van Ostran two hits and an RBI.
Utica edges Heights
Kaitlin Evans’ walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Utica to a 7-6 victory against visiting Licking Heights in LCL play.
Evans previously hit a three-run home run and two-run double, piling up six RBIs for Utica (7-5, 3-3). Emily Meyers added two hits, including a double, and two runs and Kiersten Hull a hit and two runs, and Hull also struck out two and allowed three earned runs in a complete game.
Lily Reich and Jadyn Ribbing recorded two hits and a run apiece to lead the Hornets (9-4, 4-2), who scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning and two in the seventh. Cassidy Kasiara added a double and two runs.
Watkins wins at Johnstown
Bryna Davis hit a leadoff home run and later scored twice more, igniting Watkins Memorial in an 8-6 victory at Johnstown in LCL play.
Ava Bailey and Emma Jellison also homered for the Warriors (10-4, 4-2), and Gracie Gerhardt added a double and a single and two RBIs and Elisabeth Coffman two hits and two runs. Cori Groothuis struck out two in a complete game.
Addy Zak was 4 for 4 and scored twice to lead the Johnnies (7-3-1, 3-3). Lucia Kuhn added a two-run home run, Violet Wentzel three hits and three RBIs and Emma McGeehan a triple and an RBI.
Valley wins at Heath
Addison Justice, who racked up four hits, and Chloe Cooperrider each homered and drove in four runs apiece in Licking Valley’s 20-1 victory at Heath in LCL play.
Trinity Moorehead and Emory Whisner notched three hits apiece, combining for five runs with Moorehead knocking in two, and Alexa Gilliam and Hailey Mueller added two hits, two runs and an RBI apiece for the Panthers (10-0, 6-0). Tori Baughman struck out nine and allowed three hits.
Lexi Purington led the Bulldogs (2-7, 1-5) with three hits and an RBI. They previously beat Zanesville 16-6 in LCL play on April 14.
Kate Zarins was a perfect 4 for 4 with two RBIs against the Blue Devils. Andrea Chaney added three hits and four RBIs, Purington two hits, two runs and two RBIs and Leighton O’Reilly a hit, two runs and two RBIs.
Lakewood cruises
Riley Williams homered twice and knocked in five runs for Lakewood in a 14-2 victory against visiting Zanesville (0-10, 0-6) in LCL play.
Anna Crist added three hits, including a double, and a run, Briana Hoisington two hits and two runs and Cora Redman, Ashlyn Carder and Riley Lloyd a hit and two RBIs apiece for the Lancers (10-4, 5-1). Averie Adams struck out four and allowed one hit and one run in three innings.
NC drops home game
Joanna Bailey singled twice for Newark Catholic in a 6-0 loss to visiting Mount Vernon (8-3, 5-1) in LCL play.
Aly Rothweiler struck out four and allowed three earned runs in a complete game for the Green Wave (8-3, 4-2).
Newark falls on road
Lexi Shanaberg hit a two-run home run for Newark in a 15-4 loss at Lancaster in OCC-Buckeye play.
Teagan Bowerstock added a hit and two RBIs and Emma Davis a hit and a run for the Wildcats (2-11, 1-6).
BASEBALL
Newark wins at Teays
Moses Crane did it both at the plate and on the mound for Newark, leading the Wildcats (9-1, 5-0) to an 8-0 victory at Teays Valley to remain unbeaten in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.
Crane recorded three hits and three RBIs and fired a two-hit shutout, striking out five without a walk. Luke Miller added two hits, two runs and two RBIs, Kodie Steele a hit and two runs and Bodie Smith a double, a run and an RBI.
Granville wins at Northridge
Wilson Wells homered and doubled and knocked in three runs, sparking Granville in an 8-3 victory at Northridge in LCL play.
Wells also struck six in three no-hit innings. Chase Shepherd added a double, a run and two RBIs, Jakob Culver a double and a run and Jake Johnson and Levi Legg a hit and an RBI apiece for the Blue Aces (3-2, 3-2).
Titus Hardin and Sam Miller had a hit and an RBI apiece for the Vikings (7-2, 4-1). Kash Reeves and Garrett Penrod added a hit and a run apiece.
Johnstown fends off Watkins
Braeden Archibald relieved and struck out the final two batters, securing Johnstown’s 8-6 victory against visiting Watkins Memorial in LCL play.
Gio Fultz threw 4⅓ scoreless innings, striking out two and scattering seven hits for the Johnnies (5-4, 2-3). Carter Holbrook led the offense with a double and a single, three runs and an RBI, and Luke Carter added a hit, two runs and an RBI, Sevi Chiddention a hit and two runs and Archibald and Landon Myers a hit and two RBIs apiece.
T.J. Griffith and Kaden Barrows notched two hits and an RBI apiece to lead the Warriors (6-3, 4-1), who scored all six of their runs in the seventh inning. Cam Burt and Ben Coffman added two hits and a run apiece.
Utica beats Heights
Aaron Hays, Gaige Spray and Elijah Bland each delivered three-hit games, combining for five doubles, seven runs and five RBIs, fueling Utica in a 9-5 victory against visiting Licking Heights in LCL play.
Nate Hite added two hits and two RBIs and Daniel Bero two hits and a run for Utica (4-7, 2-3). Hite also struck out two and allowed seven hits and two earned runs in a complete game.
Tino Martin led the Hornets (1-7, 1-4) with two hits, a run and an RBI. Caleb Starns added a hit and two RBIs and Maxim Fink and Stone Fenton a hit, a run and an RBI each.
Lakewood falls in seventh
Zanesville (5-5, 2-3) scored three runs without a hit in the top of the seventh inning, sending host Lakewood to an 8-7 defeat in LCL play.
Carson Pound led the Lancers (2-6, 1-4) with a hit, a run and two RBIs, and Jax Marlo and Jalen White added a hit, a run and an RBI apiece and Evan Moore and Tegan Riley a hit and a run apiece. Garrett Hardway struck out two and allowed two hits and two unearned runs in 4⅓ innings of relief.
BOYS TENNIS
Watkins sweeps Newark
Watkins Memorial did not drop a set in a 5-0 victory against visiting Newark (5-2).
Winning singles matches for the Warriors (6-3) were Matthew Reid, 6-0, 6-0, Graham Smith, 6-0, 6-1, and Wyatt Meade, 6-0, 6-0. Doubles winners were Gavin Adelman and Nathan Walter, 6-0, 6-0, and Jeffrey Smith and Nic Garabrandt, 6-2, 6-3.
TRACK
Lynch leads Lakewood
Josie Lynch crossed in a time of 28.38 seconds to win the 200-meter dash to lead the Lakewood girls during a home meet against Heath, Linden-McKinley, Liberty Union and Zanesville.
Other individual winners for the Lancers were Kendra Walker in the 1,600 (6:40.92), Aiden Maynard in the discus (103 feet, 3 inches) and Jaylie Maas in the high jump (5-1).
Ariana Klontz was a double winner in the 100 hurdles (17.63) and 300 hurdles (49.55) for Heath. Lexi Brown added a win in the 800 (2:34.77) as did Lyla Bailey in the shot put (36-1) for the Bulldogs.
In the boys meet, Lakewood’s Anthony Broska won the 200 (23.51), and teammate Alex Bowman won the 400 (52.60). Heath’s Colt Bryan won the 100 (11.31).
Johnstown competes at Berlin
Cameron Beverick crossed in a time of 23.65 seconds to win the 200-meter dash for Johnstown during a dual at Olentangy Berlin. Beverick later won the 400 (53.38).
Anthony Muscarello also was a double individual winner for the Johnnies, taking the 110 hurdles (21.00) and 300 hurdles (47.13). Grady Balsizer added a win in the discus (114 feet, 11 inches).
In the girls meet, Johnstown’s individual winners were Ella Hiebel in the 800 (2:35.48), Amelia Bonito in the 3,200 (14:40.43), Mia Beavers in the 100 hurdles (19.03), Josie Vida in the 300 hurdles (53.34) and Ava Ruffle in the long jump (15-1¼).
