The Granville girls tennis team did not drop a set Aug. 13, rolling to a season-opening 5-0 victory against visiting Teays Valley.
Addison Eckels, 6-0, 6-0, Ava Upton, 6-2, 6-4, and Alexa Todora, 6-2, 6-3, were singles winners for the Blue Aces. Sadie Treece and Sammy Garmin, 7-5, 6-1, and Kennedy Timmons and Evyn Randles, 6-0, 6-3, were doubles winners.
Newark blanks Cambridge
Newark cruised to a sweep at Cambridge, 5-0.
Kayla Blackstone, 6-1, 6-0, Analeigh Roy, 6-2, 6-1, and Isabelle Tracy, 6-1, 6-0, were singles winners for the Wildcats (2-0). Piper Franklin and Gianna Buchdrucker, 6-1, 6-1, and Annabelle Hays and Ellie Facemire, 6-0, 6-0, were doubles winners.
Previously, Bella Sherman won a third-set tiebreaker, 6-1, 2-6, 1-0, at No. 1 singles on Aug. 12 to cap Newark’s 4-1 season-opening victory against visiting Zanesville.
Roy added a win at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Tracy and Amora Spring, 6-1, 6-4, and Franklin and Buchdrucker, 6-0, 6-1, won doubles matches for the Wildcats.
BOYS GOLF
Liberty wins MOCAL event
MJ Glenn fired a 45 at Raccoon International to lead Liberty Christian to the team win during the second Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League event of the season.
Glenn took runner-up individually. The Eagles totaled 191, edging out Granville Christian’s 192.
Crete Johnson shot 47 to take third, and Tyler Hamilton and Jordan Stump added 48 apiece to tie for fourth to lead GCA. Beckett Dotson also shot 48 to tie for fourth for Liberty.
Logan Dyer, Miles Glenn, Dawson Kamppi each added a 49 to tie for 10th for the Eagles as did Josiah Green for the Lions.
Taylor shoots 73
Will Taylor fired a 73 at Denison to tie for fifth to lead Johnstown during the AM Wave of the Granville Invitational. Johnstown’s Keaton Archibald and Licking Valley’s Jackson Gieseler each shot 75 to tie for 12th.
Granville’s A.J. Stump added a 76 to tie for 18th, and Northridge’s Ben Hoover, Watkins Memorial’s Adler McClintock and Granville’s Todd Dao all shot 77 to tie for 26th. Granville’s Will Heckman and Stevie Joseph and Valley’s Landon Hinger all shot 78 to tie for 33rd, and Granville’s Hudson Hall and Valley’s Brody Wolfe shot 79 apiece to tie for 41st.
Fields shoots 74
Grady Fields fired a 74 at Denison to lead Newark and tie for 10th during the PM Wave of the Granville Invitational.
Will Bolte added a 76 to tie for 16th for the Wildcats. Tripp Miller shot 77 to tie for 21st for Granville’s B team.
Previously, Bolte shot 4-over-par through 13 holes Aug. 12 at Darby Creek for Newark during the second Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division meet, which was shortened by a storm.
Bolte finished 10th for the Wildcats, who took third in the team standings. Fields was 6-over-par through 14 holes, tying for 12th and Collin Read 9-over-par through 12, tying for 15th.
Northridge wins
Hoover fired a 40 at Harbor Hills for Northridge on Aug. 12 in a win against Lakewood, 176-190.
Titus Hardin added a 43 and Abe Hardin 44 for the Vikings.
GIRLS GOLF
Lawson leads Heath
Peyton Lawson shot 95 at Turnberry for Heath to lead Licking County competitors and place sixth during the Pickerington Central Invitational.
Utica’s Abigail Rodichok shot 96 to place seventh. Teammate Chloe McDonald followed with a 99 to place eighth.
