Many of the best basketball seniors in Licking County will tip one more time April 17.
The District 11 All-Star games are being played in Newark’s Jimmy Allen Gymnasium. The girls play at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow at 7:30.
Among those scheduled to play in the girls game are Newark’s Alaina Hann, Johnstown’s Lauren Baughman, Utica’s Callie Baker and Northridge’s Ruby Cermak. Northridge’s Bill Mitchin and Johnstown’s Scott Helmke are among the coaches.
Newark teammates Jake Quackenbush and Ty Gilbert are among those scheduled to play in the boys game. They will be joined by Heath’s Jordan Kaminsky, Licking Heights’ Nate Lovinsky, Granville Christian’s Josh Benvie, Johnstown’s John Eckenrode, Newark Catholic’s Dylan Daube, Granville’s Cayden Strasser, Licking Valley’s Zane Hancock and Utica’s Hunter McKinney.
TRACK
Valley hosts NC, Mount Vernon
Liam Zellner crossed in a time of 2 minutes, 12.6 seconds to win the 800-meter run for the host Licking Valley boys during a meet against Newark Catholic and Mount Vernon.
Other individual winners for the Panthers were Eli Busic in the 1,600 (5:15.9), Silas Kyle in the 300 hurdles (44.7), Sebastian Horsley in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches) and Ty Hufford in the pole vault (10-7).
Newark Catholic’s Finnbarr Richardson won the 110 hurdles (17.8). In the girls meet, NC’s Lily Anderson won the high jump (4-8), and Therese Fullenkamp added a win in the 800 (2:55.0).
Newark hosts Granville
Larissa Harper was a double winner, taking the shot put with a distance of 28 feet, 11¼ inches and discus (105-3) for the Newark girls during a meet against visiting Granville.
Other individual winners for the Wildcats were Odessa Andrews-Barreau in the 100-meter hurdles (16.40 seconds), Meredith Pyle in the 1,600 (5:31.47) and Janel Johnson in the 400 (1:00.44).
Tory Reynolds in the 200 (27.28) and long jump (16-5) and Sophie Price in the 300 hurdles (51.65) and high jump (4-10) each were double individual winners for Granville. Other individual winners were Ayla Cook in the 100 (13.90), Mackenzie Hadley in the 800 (2:35.88), Elsa Tonnessen 3,200 (12:13.64) and Annie McCracken in the pole vault (12-6).
In the boys meet, Newark individual winners were Camden Booker in the 100 (11.51), Treig Loughman in the 400 (53.66), Uriah Roberts in the pole vault (12-0), Enzo Catahan in the high jump (5-6), Grant McMullen in the shot put (47-1.5) and Israel Fraizer in the discus (115-1).
Ben Cook swept the 110 hurdles (19.43) and 300 hurdles (47.43) for Granville. Other Individual winners were Benjamin Rose in the 1,600 (4:50.28), Diego Rapp in the 800 (2:08.21), Nolan Cheney in the 200 (22.79), Logan Miller in the 3,200 (10:07.27) and Dimas Spencer in the long jump (18-2).
Ley leads Utica
Olive Ley was a triple winner for the Utica girls during a meet against the visiting Granville reserves.
Ley crossed in a time of 51.44 seconds to win the 300-meter hurdles (51.44) before later winning the 200 (28.34). She also cleared 4 feet, 10 inches to win the high jump.
Katie Reed in the shot put (38-5) and discus (104-11) and Camryn Baker 1,600 (6:21.06) and 3,200 (13:34.55) also were double winners for Utica. Other individual winners were Reese Radabaugh in the pole vault (7-6), Madison Yates in the long jump (15-0½) and Gracie Danison in the 100 (14.20).
Granville individual winners were Gabi Ricciardo in the 100 hurdles (19.66), Eliana White in the 400 (1:08.17) and Rubi Lechuga in the 800 (2:43.70).
In the boys meet, Utica’s Deagan Workman was a double winner in the shot put (44-0) and discus (127-6). Other winners in the field events were Holden Quinif in the high jump (5-6), Hayden Quinif in the pole vault (13-0) and Zander Davis in the long jump (19-8.5).
Utica’s individual winners in the running events were Quentin Sarnes in the 110 hurdles (21.04), Dalton Rodeniser in the 100 (12.79), Blake Lewis in the 1,600 (5:26.69), Grayson Taylor in the 300 hurdles (50.07), Andrew Bebout in the 800 (2:21.06), Hunter McKinney in the 200 (24.10) and Cody Baker in the 3,200 (12:36.73).
Westlake wins 2
Jessica Westlake crossed in a time of 18.04 seconds to win the 100-meter hurdles and later won the 300 hurdles (52.79) for the Watkins Memorial girls during a meet at Lancaster.
Isla Rice added a win in the 100 (13.54) for the Warriors. In the boys meet, Watkins’ Koehn Concha won the 100 (11.51).
BOYS TENNIS
Newark beats Canal
Linus Lininger rallied for a victory in a third-set tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0, at No. 1 singles, completing Newark’s 4-1 victory against Canal Winchester to remain unbeaten in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.
Other singles winners for the Wildcats (5-1, 3-0) were Viktor Gleckler (6-2, 6-1) at No. 2 and Wes Arnold (6-0, 6-0) at No. 3. Isaac DeVries and Bradley Pastorius added a win at No. 2 doubles (6-0, 6-0).
Watkins wins
Watkins Memorial dropped only one game in a 5-0 victory at Zanesville.
Singles winners for the Warriors (5-3) were Matthew Reid (6-0, 6-0), Graham Smith (6-0, 6-1) and Wyatt Meade (6-0, 6-0). Doubles winners were Nathan Walter and Gavin Adelman (6-0, 6-0) and Jeffrey Smith and Thompson Baioni (6-0, 6-0).
BOYS LACROSSE
Johnstown wins on road
Ben Smith made eight saves as Johnstown shut out visiting Buckeye Valley (4-2) during the final two quarters to grab a 7-4 victory.
Hayden Norman scored three goals for the Johnnies (6-2), who had a 3-0 edge in the second half. Logan Brown added a goal and an assist, Gabe Schneider, Zeke Severs and Warren Miller a goal each and Will Taylor two assists.
SOFTBALL
Watkins wins at Canal
Elisabeth Coffman homered as a part of a three-hit performance, scoring three runs and knocking in two for Watkins Memorial in a 12-0 victory at Canal Winchester.
Alli Langwasser added three hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs, Bryna Davis two hits, two runs and three RBIs and Emma Jellison a hit and two RBIs for the Warriors (9-4). Cori Groothuis struck out two in a five-inning, five-hit shutout.
Liberty falls on road
Tree of Life scored all nine of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, sending visiting Liberty Christian to a 9-1 defeat in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.
Katelyn Nestor led the Eagles (0-6, 0-2) with three hits. Macyn Looney added a double and a run, Izzy Parson a hit and an RBI and Vanessa Carroll a triple.
