The OHSAA delayed an announcement regarding an issue with Ironton High School football, with WSEO reporting that could be punishments for recruiting violations.
An OHSAA spokesperson confirmed to WSAZ that the association is “working through some issues” with Ironton. The Dispatch reached out to the OHSAA, which initially said a press release will be sent out Oct. 24 regarding Ironton. But WSAZ and the Huntington (W.Va.) Herald-Dispatch reported that an OHSAA spokesperson said it would not come until Oct. 25.
Ironton was scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. on Oct. 24 against Portsmouth, its final regular-season game of the year.
On Oct. 24, a video on Facebook showed Ironton players gathering in protest in front of their school board office, reportedly urging the board to fight rulings by the OHSAA.
Located in Lawrence County, Ironton High is the reigning Ohio Division V state champion. The Tigers beat Liberty Center 28-17 in the championship game.
Ironton is 8-1 this year, with a lone loss to Wheelersburg on Sept. 26.
