Division VI Northeast 3 district semifinal
No. 10 Mogadore 7, No. 15 Loudonville 6
The Redbirds’ lone lead of the game didn’t last long. After Loudonville scored three runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead, Mogadore answered with Autumn Betts’ two-run single in the bottom of the fifth to jump back in front. Betts finished an impressive 3 for 3, hitting two doubles and driving home four runs.
The Wildcats’ fifth-inning rally started with a two-strike leadoff single by Layla Funk, followed by Tali Bartholomew scorching a single over short. MJ Shellenbarger moved both runners with a sacrifice bunt. After the Titans coerced a comebacker for the second out of the inning, Betts delivered the game-winning hit. Bartholomew retired eight of Triway’s last nine batters to close out her complete game.
Mogadore will face No. 17 Black River in a district title game at Lake Perry on May 22 at 5 p.m.
No. 3 Cardinal Mooney 10, No. 12 Southeast 3
The Cardinals immediately jumped in front with four runs in the bottom of the first inning, also scoring multiple runs in the third and sixth. The Pirates fell despite two hits from Morgan Muncy.
Baseball
Southeast 19, Garfield 3
The Pirates scored four-plus runs in each of the final three innings to cement their first league title since 2017. Cohen Richardson had two singles and a homer, driving in a whopping six runs. The top four hitters in the Southeast lineup — Braedyn Walden, Caden Dillon, Richardson and Bradley Dillon — combined to go 10 for 18 with 10 RBIs and seven runs. That was plenty for pitchers Alaunte Massrock, who allowed three unearned runs in four innings to pick up the win, and Caden Dillon, who allowed a single hit in two scoreless innings of relief.
Rootstown 11, Waterloo 4
The Rovers finished their game against the Vikings from two days prior in which they scored four runs in the first inning and five in the third to take control. Ethan White and Jayden Whitesel both singled and doubled with the latter knocking in three runs. RJ Soika got the win with four shutout innings, striking out eight.
Trevor Flarida had three hits, including a double, to lead the Vikings.
