One person died and another is seriously injured after an early morning wrong-way crash in Fairfield County.
Bailey Johnston, 28, was driving a 2016 Hyundai Sonata on the wrong side of the highway on U.S. Route 33 in Violet Township when she struck a 2022 Chevrolet Colorado head on, according to a press release from the Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Johnston was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes.
Johnston’s car hit the pickup truck head on around 12:45 a.m. Aug. 1 at mile marker 5, close to the intersection with Lockville Road.
Johnston was pronounced dead at the scene and medics took the driver of the Chevrolet Colorado, a 21-year-old man, to Grant Medical Center in Columbus with serious injuries.
Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and had on-scene assistance from the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office and the Bloom Township Fire Department.
