Ohio State vs. Texas Buckeyes Wire staff predictions. Who will win the Week 1 clash?

All of the buildup, hype, and anticipation will all come to a boil today at Noon ET when Ohio State hosts Texas in one of the most anticipated college football openers ever. In fact, according to the US LBM Coaches Poll, it’s a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup, the first time that’s ever occurred to break the seal on a college football season.

We’re quite positive you’ve already seen a little more than one hundred predictions leading up to this one, but we have one more for you before kickoff. Every week of the Ohio State football season, we ask our writers to give their score predictions and a short synopsis of what will happen for the score to end up where they think it will

And so, yeah — we aren’t going to skip this one, how can we?

Here’s a look at who our writers say will win the game, with a guest picker from our affiliate site, Longhorns Wire.

It’s going to be a wild, close, and epic game in Columbus. Both teams are retooling a bit, and both will have to rely on new, highly-touted quarterbacks to have a big moment or two to pull this one out. In the end, the home crowd will give Ohio State just enough boost to pull this one out.

Prediction: Ohio State 26, Texas 24

Mark Russell

These two heavyweights will go toe to toe in what should be a very evenly matched contest. In a back-and-forth affair, Caleb Downs makes a big play, whether an interception or punt return, to give Ohio State the momentum it needs to take down the No. 1 Longhorns.

Prediction: Ohio State 27, Texas 23

Griffin Dreifaldt

In a defensive battle. New D coordinator Matt Patricia has arch manning on his toes in this game, and Julian Sayin does just enough on offense to ensure a Buckeyes win.

Prediction: Ohio State 20, Texas 17

Tommy Bresee, Longhorns Wire

It will be a defensive battle, with two of the best defenses in the country in my eyes, including three of the five best defensive players in the country. I believe Arch Manning makes one or two big throws to Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore down the stretch of this game, and Texas will sneak out of Columbus with their 12 straight road win.

Prediction: Texas 24, Ohio State 20
