Black history exhibit celebration
CANTON ‒ The McKinley Presidential Library & Museum, 800 McKinley Monument Drive NW, will host a free community celebration for the new Keller Gallery exhibition “A Legacy Revived: Exploring Stark County’s Rich Black History” from 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 19.
The first 200 people to arrive will receive a $10 coupon to spend with the food truck of their choice. Online registration is encouraged, but not required, at www.McKinleyMuseum.org.
A Legacy Revived is the Stark County Black History Museum’s debut exhibition. It explores the history of the Black communities of Canton, Massillon, Alliance and Waynesburg, beginning in the early 1800s, when the first Black families arrived in Stark County, and traces the challenges they faced.
Guests will enjoy Black-owned and operated food trucks, Djobi Drumming and Dance Ensemble from the Ivory Coast, a DJ, and a creative board game hosted by Raw Games. The Gift Shoppe will be open from 6 to 7 p.m. for Juneteenth-inspired merchandise.
Grab, Go, & Grow Baby Shower
CANTON – The sixth annual Grab, Go, & Grow Baby Shower for new and expecting parents will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 13 at the Eric Snow YMCA, 420 Third St. NW.
Attendees at the free, family-friendly event can connect with local organizations and agencies that offer programs and services designed for them.
Upon arrival, attendees must stop at the registration table to receive pre-packed bags, and tickets/wristbands to access attractions. In addition to giveaways, resources and education, there will be food, chair massages, games and crafts.
The Community Action Pathways HUB, a Stark County Community Action Agency program, and the Eric Snow YMCA are co-hosting the event.
Deaf-a-palooza at Hall of Fame Village
CANTON ‒ Deaf-a-palooza, a celebration of Deaf culture and community, will be June 19 and 20 at Hall of Fame Village, 1835 Harrison Ave. NW.
The festival brings together Deaf and hard-of-hearing people, American Sign Language users, interpreters, allies, and the broader community for a weekend of live performances, cultural programming and networking.
The event is open to all. All programming will feature ASL accessibility, with interpreters for both deaf and hearing and visual accommodations throughout the venue. Tickets and full programming details are at https://tinyurl.com/5n6mt3m3.
Four from Stark become Highway Patrol troopers
COLUMBUS ‒ Four men from Stark County are among the 43 members of Ohio State Highway Patrol’s 178th Academy Class that graduated in April from the patrol training academy:
The new troopers completed courses in crash investigation, criminal and traffic law, detection of impaired drivers, firearms, physical fitness, self-defense and emergency vehicle operations.
McKinley High School reunion
JACKSON TWP. ‒ McKinley High School’s 50-year class reunion will be from 7 to 11 pm. July 3 at La Pizzeria, 3656 Dressler Road NW. The cost is $100 per person, which includes a meal, photo stand, DJ, reunion favors, photographer and cash bar. McKinley graduates from the classes of 1970-1979 also are invited, but the focus will be on the classes of 1975 and 1976.

Maroon 5 tribute concert
JACKSON TWP. ‒ The Nash Family Jackson Amphitheater 7454 Community Parkway NW, will host Animals: The Maroon 5 Tribute Concert from 7:30 to 10 p.m. June 12. Friends of Lake book sale
LAKE TWP. ‒ Friends of Lake Community Branch Library will hold a book sale at the library, 565 Market Ave. SW, from June 17 through 20.
More than 15,000 items, including books, CDs, DVDs and puzzles, will be available. June 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. will be reserved for Friends of Lake Community Branch Library members only. The public may shop from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. June 18, noon to 5 p.m. June 19, and 9 a.m. to noon June 20 ($3 bag sale).
Oak Ridge Boys concert

Minerva Homecoming
MINERVA ‒ Minerva’s 103rd Homecoming will be June 10 through 13 at Municipal Park, featuring a midway, fair food, live music, a classic car cruise-in and other entertainment.
The Homecoming parade will be at 6 p.m. June 10. Lineup is at Minerva Middle School, and the route is south on Bonnieview, west on Line Street, north on Market, east on Lincoln Way, and ending at Minerva High School. Registration forms are available at the Minerva Fire Department, 505 E. Lincoln Way, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through June 9. Newborn Care 101
NORTH CANTON ‒ The North Canton Public Library, 185 N. Main St., will host Newborn Care 101: Essential Tips for First-Time Parents program, presented by Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 16. Woman’s Club Community Picnic
MASSILLON – The Massillon Woman’s Club Community Picnic, celebrating Massillon’s 200th and America’s 250th anniversary, will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 14 at the Five Oaks courtyard and grounds, 210 Fourth St. NE.
There will be live music, games and food (hot dogs, chips, lemonade, ice cream; apple pie for an additional $2). Admission is $5. Dress in favorite period costumes or patriotic wear. Bring your own lawn chair. Mini tours of Five Oaks will be available for $5.
Garden fair in Wooster
WOOSTER ‒ The Secrest Garden Fair will be from 9 to 4 p.m. June 13 at Secrest Arboretum, 2122 Williams Road.
Admission and parking are free. The event, hosted by the Friends of Secrest Arboretum, includes local arts and craft vendors, a plant sale, guided garden tours, educational workshops, food trucks and the Shed Sale, featuring gently used gardening tools, books and décor. Kids crafts will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Zoar Wetland garage sale
ZOAR ‒ The Zoar Wetland Arboretum’s annual garage sale will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 12 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 13 at the Zoar Wetland Picnic Shelter, 434 W. Fifth St. All proceeds will benefit the Zoar Wetland. A fish release will be at 11 a.m. June 13 to restock the lake. Volunteers are welcome to help.
